A welcome offer can look like a simple percentage in a review while involving several separate account events. There may be an initial deposit, a promotional balance, later deposits and a rule that determines how winnings can be withdrawn. The tables above describe the international versions reviewed by this site. They do not establish a New Zealand offer. The domestic licensing transition and the rules for licensed platforms need to be read separately from the terms attached to any foreign account.
Which rules apply to the New Zealand market
New Zealand's Online Casino Gambling Act took effect on 1 May 2026. Certain providers that already served people in New Zealand can operate during the transition under the applicable conditions, but new providers cannot enter. The Department of Internal Affairs says online casino advertising to people in New Zealand is prohibited during this phase. A previously operating service cannot rely on its transition status as permission to advertise a welcome offer.
From 1 December 2026, operators without a licence application must cease operating in the country. An operator with an application under consideration may continue under the exemption without advertising. The October auction determined who could apply. It did not name the consumer brands that will be licensed or give a particular international website the right to advertise. Check the New Zealand licences guide for the separate stages.
A bonus already credited to a foreign account is an account record. A current claim that the same promotion is available to a person in New Zealand is a different statement. A table can help identify the kind of term an operator used, but it cannot resolve that second question. Save the exact terms, service address and date if the first question is part of a dispute.
What the licensed framework says about a deposit inducement
Regulation 13 addresses inducements on New Zealand-licensed platforms. It allows them only in connection with specified account actions or participation in online casino gambling on the operator's platform. An operator must clearly explain the terms and make it clear to the customer whether they are using the inducement or their own uncommitted funds. The operator must also permit withdrawal of winnings from using an inducement without requiring those winnings to be used for further gambling.
When an inducement requires a customer to spend uncommitted funds, its value is limited to the lower of NZD 100 and 200% of the original deposit or bet, as relevant. Where spending uncommitted funds is not required, a separate NZD 100 ceiling applies. These figures are regulatory limits, not advertised offer amounts. They do not give a customer a claim to a particular bonus or make a foreign offer with the same numbers compliant.
The operator must allow at least 60 days to satisfy the terms for a payout from an inducement. Distinguish that rule from any date by which a person would have to respond to a particular campaign, and from the time allowed for the operator to settle a withdrawal. These are three different points on a timeline. The law's requirements apply to the licensed framework, while the tables may record international campaigns with different terms.
Read a welcome package one deposit at a time
An operator can describe several deposits as one welcome package. A total across three deposits does not show what the first deposit alone would have attracted or what later deposits would require. Read each stage with its own percentage, cap, qualifying amount and conditions. Note when a stage refers to a later deposit or to a different benefit, such as spins instead of a cash-equivalent credit.
In a historic account record, line up each deposit with the credit the operator attached to it. The first eligible deposit may be different from the first transaction if an earlier payment was returned or fell outside the published conditions. A second deposit can also occur after a promotion has expired. Use the sequence in the account rather than assuming that the campaign's first, second and third labels line up with every payment on the statement.
Keep payment thresholds in the denomination shown. An international version can set different nominal limits for different account currencies. NZD and USD can both appear with a dollar sign. An amount in one currency should not be turned into another amount using today's exchange rate and then presented as a local term. The original currency code and account agreement are stronger evidence.
Distinguish the credited amount from the cap
A percentage describes how an operator calculates a credit against a qualifying amount. A cap limits the resulting credit. A line that says a promotion is available up to a certain amount does not tell you the amount attached to a specific account. Check the deposit amount, the base to which the percentage applied and any cap in the original currency. Keep fees and conversion adjustments separate from that calculation.
For an example of how to read a receipt, suppose a table names a credit of 50% up to 60 units. A qualifying deposit of 40 units would produce a nominal credit of 20 under that arithmetic, before any other published conditions. A qualifying deposit of 150 units would reach the stated cap instead of producing 75. Those are sample numbers only. The account receipt and applicable rules determine what actually happened.
There may also be a distinct minimum deposit or a minimum withdrawal. Neither is the same as the credit cap. A receipt showing a 20-unit bonus does not establish that a 20-unit cash withdrawal was available. Record the cash portion and promotional portion separately. If the operator used a different base for the calculation, ask it to identify the transaction, rule and amount it used.
Keep free spins and cash credits in separate columns
Welcome offers can add spins to a percentage credit. A spin count identifies the number of promotional rounds, while the value per spin, named games and expiry may be stated elsewhere. The value credited after a spin is a separate figure again. A package displaying a round number of spins does not establish the cash value of the package or the amount the customer received.
If a spin allocation arrived in batches, keep the date and expiry for each batch. A screenshot of an overall count may not show which spins were available at the time of a particular game. If the game changed names or moved to a different provider's listing, record the title and identifier shown in the account history. The review can help locate the rule, but the specific account history identifies the event.
For a promotion that did not require a deposit, use the no-deposit guide. If a free-spin allocation was conditional on a deposit, it belongs with the relevant deposit offer even if the operator describes the rounds as free. The qualifying action determines which conditions apply. The name on the banner cannot settle that question.
Identify the balance the terms applied to
International bonus agreements can apply restrictions to the promotional credit, money won using that credit or a balance that the operator displays as a single total. Find the definition used in the agreement and compare it with the entries in the account. A request to withdraw an uncommitted cash balance is a different matter from a request to redeem a promotional credit that has not reached its payout stage.
Some foreign offers refer to a multiple of a bonus or a multiple of the combined deposit and bonus. These are not equivalent. When reconstructing an old account issue, preserve the exact wording, eligible game contribution and original ledger. In New Zealand's licensed framework, the operator must allow withdrawal of winnings from using the inducement without requiring those winnings to be gambled again. A foreign rule should never be presented as if it overrides that requirement.
If the operator attributes a withdrawal rejection to a promotion, ask what event linked the funds to the promotion. A cash transfer, credit allocation and game result may have been processed at different times. Retain the record of each. A rejection code alone does not show whether the operator correctly applied a restriction to cash or to winnings tied to the inducement.
Check offer dates and eligibility as independent facts
A dated offer can specify a start, a claim period and a separate completion deadline. The date a review was published may be none of those. If the question is whether an account was eligible, compare the original date and market of the offer with the account's recorded actions. An English headline alone does not establish that the terms were intended for New Zealand.
First-time eligibility may be limited to a particular brand, website or account relationship. In a foreign terms dispute, a group name shared by two websites does not by itself prove that opening one account disqualified the other. Look for the clause as it existed when the promotion was issued. If an operator says a restriction applied, ask it to identify the original terms and account event rather than relying on a current banner.
A migration can create an account that looks new on a phone while preserving an existing account history. Keep any notice identifying who held the original account and what moved. If the issue involves a new app or website, the new casino guide distinguishes an opening from a rebrand and an app release. The changed interface does not identify which welcome terms the account inherited.
Read a withdrawal alongside the original welcome record
The domestic licensed rules separately cover how uncommitted funds are held and withdrawn. An operator must provide a way to request withdrawal and generally return funds using the registered deposit method, with an alternative where that is not possible under the rule. That is separate from a promise that a payment will arrive within a particular number of hours. For a pending case, ask for the traceable reference and the status it represents.
If an operator returns a deposit or closes an account, retain the original request and any notice about the balance. A refund can appear in a different statement period from the debit. Compare the original denomination, merchant and reference. Where more than one deposit was involved, keep the references for each payment instead of using the combined package amount. The New Zealand payment guide explains the evidence that a bank or payment provider can use to trace settlement.
Where the bonus was displayed next to cash, a later removal may change the combined total without changing the original bank payment. A debit from the account balance and a debit in a bank account are different events. Ask for an account ledger showing which line was adjusted. Save the offer terms that were in force on the relevant date.
Keep an account complaint and an advertising report distinct
For a complaint about an offer shown to someone in New Zealand, preserve the original wording, publication channel, date and the exact service advertised. The DIA identifies a separate route for reports about unlawful advertising. A complaint about an individual balance instead needs the operator's terms, dated account records and payment references. The two complaints can concern the same campaign while requiring different documents.
A promotion copied into an international review may be out of date even if its earlier terms are quoted accurately. Check whether an account notice or later written response actually replaced those terms for the transaction under review. Keep both versions if there is a conflict. Do not assume a new version can settle the rules for an earlier deposit or that the older offer is still open.
Use verified channels and provide only the documents needed to explain the issue. An account reference, amount and payment date are more useful for tracing a transfer than a password, authentication code or full card details. If a message asks for a separate transfer to release a welcome credit, do not act on the message alone. Confirm the operator's identity and seek help from the verified payment institution if money has already moved.
Follow changes to the terms without losing the original version
An operator may correct a promotional page after customers have already deposited. An amended game list, a different expiry date or an added restriction can change the way the page reads. Save any material change with its date and keep the version that applied to the disputed account event. A comparison table can be refreshed from current information while the earlier agreement remains relevant to a previous customer.
Separate an offer's claim deadline from the time the operator posted the credit. If a deposit was made near midnight, the website may apply its own time zone while the receipt displays New Zealand time. A pending payment can also become final after the end of the campaign. Check the terms for the event the operator used to decide eligibility. Keep the original timestamps and let the verified payment provider explain which one reflects settlement.
Ask for an explanation that identifies the version of the terms, the account action and the relevant amount. A useful answer should distinguish a deposit that was received from a promotion that was credited, refused or later removed. If the operator's reply does not explain which balance it changed, retain it and ask for the relevant entries in the account history. An updated landing page does not replace that evidence.
A welcome offer also has a different purpose from a repeat deposit promotion. If a later notice promises a new benefit to an existing account, compare it with the reload guide before treating it as a delayed stage of the welcome package. A loss-based adjustment belongs with cashback records. Put the original promotion next to the entry it explains instead of applying one set of terms to every bonus on the account.
Questions about welcome bonus records in New Zealand
Are the listed offers available to people in New Zealand? The tables document international versions. Check the domestic licensing and advertising rules separately from any offer record.
Is the total of a welcome package the first deposit bonus? No. A package may combine several deposits, caps and spin allocations. Find the terms of the individual stage.
What is the cap in the licensed New Zealand framework? An inducement requiring the use of uncommitted funds is capped at the lesser of NZD 100 and twice the original deposit or bet. A separate NZD 100 ceiling applies if such spending is not required.
Can the operator require further gambling with winnings from the inducement? Regulation 13 requires licensed operators to allow those winnings to be withdrawn without requiring the customer to gamble them again.
What evidence helps with an earlier deposit? Keep the original campaign terms, exact website, deposit receipt and account ledger. If a withdrawal was requested, keep the dated request and its traceable reference too.
