Michigan Lottery confirms a $2 million scratch-ticket prize

A May 2026 Michigan Lottery claim illustrates the difference between a scratch ticket’s advertised top prize and its one-time cash payment.

On 27 May 2026, Michigan Lottery reported that an anonymous Kent County player had claimed a top prize from its Bonus Scratch Multiplier instant game. The winning ticket cost $20 and was bought in Grand Rapids. The lottery identified the advertised top prize as $2 million.

What the winner actually chose

The player selected a one-time payment of about $1.3 million instead of receiving the full advertised amount through annuity payments. The two numbers refer to different payment options for the same prize. Neither the headline nor the reported lump sum should be read as the player’s after-tax proceeds.

A claim is a record of one outcome

A published winner story confirms an individual claim. It does not tell a reader what a particular ticket will pay or how many tickets are still available. Counts of unclaimed prizes change, so historical claim reports should not be used as an inventory of prizes available today.
